Then embark on a Nile River cruise: from Luxor and the towering temples of Karnak, into the Valley of the Kings, past the Colossi of Memnon, on to Edfu, Kom Ombo, and Aswan — with an optional excursion to the breathtaking temples of Abu Simbel.

Friday — Day 2
Arrival in Cairo
Arrive in Cairo, where our representative meets you just before Immigration and assists with required documents, visa issuance, and luggage claim. Transfer to the Sofitel Downtown Nile (or similar) on the banks of the Nile River. Remainder of the day at leisure to recover from the journey. Egypt entry visa is included and obtained on your behalf upon arrival.

Saturday — Day 3
Cairo — Pyramids, Sphinx & Grand Egyptian Museum
Breakfast · Dinner
Begin at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization for a rich, deep insight into Egyptian culture through the ages, including the fascinating Mummy Room housing all 22 royal mummies. Continue to Giza to see the Three Great Pyramids — the oldest surviving structures built by man — and stand in awe at the magnificent Sphinx, carved from a single piece of stone. Then on to the new Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), the largest archaeological museum in the world, with over 100,000 artifacts including King Tut's entire treasure collection. Return to Cairo for dinner and overnight.

Sunday — Day 4
Memphis, Sakkara & Fayoum (Joseph)

Drive to ancient Memphis, founded in 3100 BC as the first capital of the united kingdom of Upper and Lower Egypt, with its colossal statue of Ramses II. Continue to the vast necropolis of Sakkara — where architecture was born — and stand before the soaring Step Pyramid of Pharaoh Zoser, the first stone structure ever built. On to Fayoum, the region created by the divinely inspired wisdom of Joseph: see the ancient storehouses and the man-made lake fed by a canal Joseph ordered built, which irrigated a desert land and supplied food through the prophesied seven-year famine. Return to Cairo for dinner and overnight.

Monday — Day 5
Cairo → Luxor · Embark Nile Cruise
Breakfast · Lunch · Dinner
Transfer to the airport for the early morning flight to Luxor. Embark a luxury Nile river ship (Sonesta Moon Goddess or similar) for a 5-day / 4-night cruise. After lunch, visit the Avenue of the Sphinxes and the imposing Temple of Luxor with its grand colonnades, standing alone in the heart of town. Continue to the vast Karnak Temple complex, built by generations of Pharaohs over a 2,000-year period — the largest religious complex ever built, dedicated to Amun Ra, the chief god of ancient Egypt. Evening on-board entertainment. Overnight in Luxor.

Tuesday — Day 6
Luxor → Esna · Valley of the Kings
Breakfast · Lunch · Dinner
After breakfast, cross to the West Bank for the Valley of the Kings — the secretive tombs of New Kingdom Pharaohs — including the Tomb of Tutankhamen. Continue to the beautifully terraced mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahari, and pass the famed Colossi of Memnon, standing nearly 70 feet tall. Return to the ship and sail to Esna. Afternoon at leisure. Captain's welcome cocktail before dinner. Overnight in Esna.

Wednesday — Day 7
Esna → Edfu → Kom Ombo
Breakfast · Lunch · Dinner
Set sail at first light to Edfu and visit the Temple of Horus, the best preserved of all large Egyptian temples — built over a 180-year period and dedicated to the falcon-headed god of the sky. In the afternoon arrive in Kom Ombo, a hill town overlooking the banks of the Nile, and explore the Greco-Roman Temple of Kom Ombo, dedicated to Horus the Sun God and Sobek the Crocodile God. This evening, a traditional fun-filled Galabeya party on board. Overnight in Kom Ombo.

Thursday — Day 8
Kom Ombo → Aswan · Philae & Felucca
Breakfast · Lunch · Dinner
Set sail to Aswan. Visit the Aswan High Dam and the granite quarries where the stone for ancient monuments and the modern dam was cut. View the gigantic, unfinished Obelisk of Queen Hatshepsut. Continue by motorboat to the beautiful island of Philae to see the exquisite, gleaming white Temple of Philae, dedicated to the goddess Isis. After lunch, sail on a traditional Egyptian felucca along the Nile, passing Lord Kitchener's Island and the dramatic white-marble Aga Khan Mausoleum. Nubian show after dinner on board. Overnight in Aswan.

Friday — Day 9
Aswan → Cairo (Optional Abu Simbel)
Breakfast · Dinner
Breakfast and disembarkation. Optional Abu Simbel excursion: fly to see the Sun Temple of Abu Simbel — marvel at the colossal temples of Ramses II and Queen Nefertari, carved into rock over 3,000 years ago. Famous for their massive statues and solar alignment, the temples were relocated in an incredible feat of modern engineering to save them from rising waters. Return flight to Cairo via Aswan and transfer to the InterContinental CityStars (or similar). Dinner and overnight.

Departure
Breakfast
After breakfast, transfer to Cairo International Airport for your departure flight home — or continue the journey with a flight to Tel Aviv to add the Holy Land tour. Safe travels.

Colossi of Memnon
Two massive stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, standing nearly 70 feet tall and guarding what was once his mortuary temple.

Temple of Horus, Edfu
The best preserved of all large Egyptian temples, built over a 180-year period and dedicated to Horus — the falcon-headed god of the sky.

Temple of Kom Ombo
A unique Greco-Roman double temple overlooking the Nile, simultaneously dedicated to Horus the Sun God and Sobek the Crocodile God.

Aswan High Dam
One of the great engineering feats of the 20th century, controlling the Nile's annual flooding and powering modern Egypt. View the granite quarries that supplied stone for both the ancient monuments and the modern dam.

Temple of Philae
Reached by motorboat across the Nile, the exquisite gleaming white temple dedicated to the goddess Isis — rescued from the rising waters and reassembled on Agilika Island.

Felucca Sail on the Nile
Glide along the Nile aboard a traditional Egyptian felucca sailboat, passing Lord Kitchener's Island and the dramatic white marble Aga Khan Mausoleum.
DAY 9
Abu Simbel
The colossal Sun Temple of Ramses II and the smaller temple of Queen Nefertari, carved into a cliff over 3,000 years ago. Famous for their massive guardian statues and solar alignment, the temples were relocated stone by stone in a remarkable engineering feat to save them from the rising Nile.
